9/30/2003 - Russell Pipe Brings Old Plant to Life

The Russell Corporation has been a valued customer of Birmingham-Toledo for decades, so it was with great sorrow that we saw some of the local plants close after NAFTA forced much of our textiles overseas. Russell Corporation is still a very valued customer with many plants operating locally. Recently Russell Pipe Service and Sales (no relation to Russell Corporation) brought the old Russell Coosa plant back to life with the help of Birmingham-Toledo.
Russell Pipe has been doing business in Alexander City for over 50 years, all in the same location. They had outgrown the old plant and used it to its fullest extent. They needed a larger site and desired a newer plant with all the amenities available to industrial manufacturers and distributors today. The Russell Coosa plant was right down the road, sitting empty and waiting on their use.
Russell Pipe had used a competitor to service their old mechanical truck scale. Birmingham-Toledo came in aggressively to continue their dominance of the market. Russell Pipe chose a Toledo model 7560 truck scale due to its completely digital design and due to the great name which Toledo carries in the weighing world. "The name Toledo sold this project," stated account representative Robert Proctor. Russell also bought Toledo scales for their in-plant weighing.
It is nice to see an old friend come back to life as the Coosa Plant breathes once again with the industrious work of a new tenant. Toledo scales served Russell Corporation well on this site. They now begin many years of service to Russell Pipe.
