We like to pick and choose only the best product offerings from many manufacturers.  Lesser manufacturers can sometimes fill a product offering hole within the Toledo scale line.  For example, we have had great success with the Rice Lake Laserlight remote display scoreboard.  Although we do not think very highly of Rice Lake truck scales, we love their Laserlight on other scales. 

The SURVIVOR® LaserLight remote display has a bright display and non-glare lens for maximum visibility. Other scoreboards will sometimes "wash-out" in direct sunlight or lose visibility.  Not the Laserlight!  The LaserLight's LED display provides easy-to-read images of your weight process.  

Many times an end-user purchases an inexpensive truck scale such as Rice Lake or some other brand in an effort to save money.  Lesser service companies often offer these inexpensive truck scales as a means to acquire service money when the scale breaks down.  Manufacturers learn too late that the lesser service company has fooled them.  We are then called in to repair what our competitors have done.  It all comes down to quality technicians, stock parts, and treating people the way that you would like to be treated.

Rice Lake Weighing Systems does offer some quality products, and has gained a fair amount of market share in the weighing industry.  The Rice Lake 920i programmable weight indicator combines advanced electronics with simple design. Birmingham-Toledo has the only factory trained 920i programmers in Alabama, able to program up to ten different screens with a single 920i to change with your process.  We can also add graphics and messages to show setpoints, instructions, or functions.

We installed a 920i at the University of Alabama Athletic Department and wrote a software program in which all Crimson Tide athletes step onto the scale and are prompted to enter their student ID.  Their weight is transmitted immediately to their coaches, as well as to the training and strength staffs.  This ensures the athletes' health while allowing the university to track their body changes in real time.  There have been no health problems during August football two-a-day practices at the University of Alabama since we programmed and installed their proprietary system.  College and high school football coaches of Alabama - give us a call.  We can help you!

The Rice Lake 920i includes a multi-scale display.  You can view the weight of multiple scales or a combination display of totalized weights. When used in batching applications, the 920i is capable of handling multiple scales, flow, temperature and pulse! It can control hundreds of I/O, as well as setpoints. It also has a large database capability for data storage.

Thurman Scales

We are a proud distributor for Thurman.  We stock the Thurman Avenger floor scale.  Avenger floor scales are made of heavy-duty, rugged, mild steel and are ideal for all weighing applications. With a height of only three inches, these floor scales allow easy maneuvering of all types of loads.

We have also been very impressed with the Thurman "Diamondback" steel deck truck scale. Like Toledo, the Thurman offers an open-bottom orthotropic design.  Just like three sheets of paper corrugated together into cardboard makes great strength, this design forms a super strong deck with extremely low deflection.  The design also aids in corrosion resistance. This truck scale is rated up to 270,000 pounds, and has a 90,000 lb Concentrated Load (Section) Capacity rating.  This exceeds most state maximum limits by far. The steel deck features nine 10 and 12 inch I-beams beneath a 1/4 inch thick diamond-tread deck plate. Self-centering double ended shear beam load cell suspension allows the scale to move without damage and always return to the same location. Again like Toledo truck scales, this scale features an interlocking platform design for easy one-day installation. All Diamondback scales come standard with Intalogix Technology, providing full lightning protection and diagnostic ability.

  THURMAN HEAVY-DUTY TRUCK SCALES

Ohaus

Ohaus makes outstanding bench scales, as well as inexpensive top-loader lab balances.  The Ohaus heavy-capacity bench scales use the exact same design as Toledo, while also utilizing a Toledo load cell.  Their pricing is lower, though!  

The OHAUS Defender^TM 5000 Series incorporates this Toledo bench scale design and technology.  They are available with a plastic T51P weight indicator, or with the NEMA 4X/IP66 stainless steel model T51XW. We often replace these cheaper indicators for quality Toledo indicators, but sometimes the budget will not allow it, and we will do whatever we can to meet your needs. 

These bench scales are ideal for shipping scales, or in light industrial production areas.  The Defender 5000 multifunctional indicators come with multiple weighing units capability and special software modes for most industrial needs. With the rugged Toledo style construction, weight indicator software,  and  connectivity options, this bench scale will meet your needs. 

The Ohaus Defender^TM 3000 bench scales include the Toledo design and load cell, but are even more affordable scales than are the Defender^TM 5000!  They are ideal for basic weighing and simple counting applications, as well as light industrial  production, and shipping areas.  There are four capacity models: 60, 150, 300 and 600 lb, with three different scale base sizes. Like the 5000, there are two indicator models, the plastic T31P, and the steel T31XW, but you might want to consider upgrading to one of our Toledo weight indicators.

Ohaus also offers inexpensive, yet quality top loader balances.  The Adventurer^TM  Pro series is great for general laboratory and educational applications requiring multiple weighing units. They are economical, yet weigh to a precision level.

Readability: 1 mg to 0.01 g

The Ohaus Pioneer ^TM Series Precision Balances are designed for basic routine weighing in a variety of laboratory, industrial and educational settings when the budget is of the utmost concern. The Pioneer has a great combination of performance and features.  Most importantly, the price is right!

Readability: 1 mg to 0.1 g 

Of course, Ohaus also offers the REALLY inexpensive balance, for those who need a small capacity weight with a throw-away scale.   The Scout Pro is the king of the inexpensive balances.  It is the old reliable in the economy weighing world.  It combines the accuracy and reliability of earlier Scout balances with all-new features at a very affordable price.

Readability: 0.01 g to 1 g

We have had great recent success with the Ohaus Valor^TM 3000 Xtreme.  Its rugged, full stainless steel design offers high performance in a easy-to-use, portable scale.

Our industrial and retail food divisions are impressed with the Ohaus FD Series food portioning scale.  The Ohaus FD is a rugged portioning scale for use in food service applications. Hardy Instruments

We have recently partnered with Hardy Instruments due to their extremely high quality weigh modules. Since 1918 Hardy has brought innovation to the weighing world.  Hardy's interfaces include DeviceNet, ControlNet, Ethernet, Remote I/O, Profibus DP, and Modbus TCP.  Most impressive, though are their weigh modules with digital calibration.  This is invaluable in the extreme heavy duty weighing market, where it is not always possible to use certified test weights in a large enough capacity.  The weigh modules come in a choice of stainless or galvanized steel mounting hardware and a stainless steel hermetically sealed load cell.  Most impressive, though, is their C2® Second Generation Calibration capabilities.  No test weights are needed due to the electrical calibration capability!  Each weigh module includes lift off protection and each set includes three mount types designed to eliminate the effects of unwanted force.  They can be positioned in a 360 degree radius in ninety degree steps. Each load cell includes a fixed color code wiring label, and is rated IP68 and NTEP Class III.

Sartorious

Sartorious is one of the top laboratory weighing manufacturers in the world.  As an independent distributor, we are proud to market their products.  Unlike some laboratory equipment manufacturers, who concentrate on laboratory "glass" distributors, Sartorious is focused on independent distribution, and their At-line Moisture Meter, model LMA500 leads the way. 

The LMA500 Moisture Meter uses spectroscopy; the interaction between light and the customer sample is used to make a true moisture analysis. When the sample is exposed to near infrared light (NIR), a part of this light is modified due to its interaction with the sample. This change in the NIR light, which is dependent on the water content of the sample, reveals its moisture content.  The LMA500  is able to measure between 0.1 % and 50 % moisture content.  It has a large, 8.4" touch screen, and a wide range of software.  It is also network-compatible via its standard Ethernet connection.

Massload Technologies  

Massload Technologies is a scale manufacturer with some unusual and interesting products.  One of the most interesting is their weigh-in-motion system.  It consists of load cells (type is dependent upon application), computer interface to convert the scale output to real weight and send the information to the computer, and pc software to calculate the weight readings and store the data.
